Hesitant Human Being is a series of performances within a theme of reconciliation. What is a hesitant human being? Hesitant in human? Hesitant in being? Or hesitant as a tenacious blossoming, a reconciliation in nature?
Concerts and recordings
The grape and the coconut
In these concerts and recordings of South Indian devotional songs, 'the grape and the coconut' is a popular comparison between two of the Trinity of composers central to the South Indian Carnatic canon. In one composer, the songs' sweetness and juice is said to be immediately appreciable, likened to simply squashing a grape against the roof of one’s mouth. For the other, to get the song's sweetness first you have to shin up the coconut palm, hack off the coconut, climb down, chip off the husk, split the outer shell, make a hole in the nut, and then, only then comes that sweet tender coconut water!
